ABC Radio to recommence as Hiru Media Networks?

Rumors are swirling that ABC Radio Networks will recommence transmission on all channels as Hiru Media Networks.

Transmission is supposed to start during the course of this month but so far there is nothing except for the fact that the Sooriyan FM website is reportedly on line once again.

Anyone who has more information on the status of this radio network is welcome to comment and share the information.

"Channel C" - Sri Lanka's 1st 24X7 Sinhala Music Channel launches today

The first ever Music Television style channel operated in Sri Lanka will be launching officially today on Dialog Satellite TV. The channel called "Channel C" will be telecasting Sinhala Music Video's on a 24X7 basis. Later on it may also adopt broadcasting programming using VJ's like those by Music Television.

This channel is said to have the backing of "Torana Music". This becomes the second local pay channel in Sri Lanka after "CiTi HiTz". If "Channel C" is broadcast outside Sri Lanka onto Middle Eastern & Western Pay television networks there is no doubt that this channel will gain a tremendous following among the Sri Lankan expatriates. However there is no doubt that this channel will expand far beyond our shores.

This channel is also available on Dialog Mobile TV (MyTV) and commenced testing on Dialog Satellite TV a few days ago.

Sath FM launches today on "FM 103.6"

Sri Lanka's newest Sinhala Language Radio Station "Sath FM" was officially launched today after a period of testing. According to reports this channel is operated by the controversial "Hulugalla" folks and the chairperson is Mrs. Lakshman Hulugalla.

Sri Lanka's 1st Educational Channel "Nenasa" to launch in May

The first educational channel in Sri Lanka will be launched in May 2008 by the Ministry pf Education and Dialog TV will provide free satellite technology to this project. This channel will be completely dedicated to education and will cater to the needs of the O/L & A/L students in all three languages.

The National Institute of Education will be the advisor for this channel and most programs will be produced by in house technicians at the institute. In addition some programmes are expected to be outsourced whenever required.

SLT to launch IPTV in May

Sri Lanka Telecom has announced plans to begin providing IPTV services from May 2008 onwards. According to Head of IP Broadband and Network Division, SLT has been testing the service ever since they received the TRC license over an year ago. Sri Lanka will become the second in this region to provide this service after India. With SLT entering the market they become the fourth major player in the pay television industry after Comet Cable, LBN & Dialog TV.

The entrance of SLT is much awaited as it will contribute to increased competition which will eventually result in a reduction of prices of pay television services.
