  1. I think we have enough TV channels now. All the Local channels we have at the moment have the same format.

Now its time to have a dedicated news channel, music channel, drama channel, sports channel etc.

No point in having the common format like in the mornings newspaper reading, then womens magazine then cartoons in the eve and news at 7 and 8 with some tele dramas. All have this stale format which was introduced by Rupavahini decades back !!

    It's time to change !

  2. I agree very much with Lisura.
It would be nice to see a dedicated 24hr news channel with the lankan perspective. I mean look at other countries and the amount of news channels they have. They could do something similar to the majority of the news channels, half hour news, followed by local content (ie documentary style, solid music shows etc) and during non prime times, have one hour non-news programmes.

  3. All local channels have only format. they copying copying and copying. They want to air everyting in universe. We want some quality dedicated channels.

  4. What ever said every channel is the same with a slight difference in time slots.

We need channels like Channel C, Citi Hitz and HTV which has a unique theme. A dedicated news channel is a must with the nothern development and the prospective economic boom in Sri Lanka.

  5. jst to let u guys know. today i was jst going thru da tuning process and i was able to catch two new channels. one is called TBO and another call DAN and both are in tamil. both i caught on da UHF stream and both were not clear. TBO was playing sum movie while DAN was doing sum request show and ppl were also calling and stuff. the number on screen was a sri lankan colombo number so im sure its not a indian channel too!!

n e one know n e thing abt these two channels?

  6. Dan Tv is a Sri Lankan Tamil Tv channel. All this time, this channel was only in Vavuniya. Now, they expand to Jaffna & Colombo.

TBO is a Malaysian tamil channel & now telecasting through Vetti Tv.
In other words, Vetti Tv will telecast all the TBO programs.

  7. I can receive Siyatha TV from Kuliyapitiya clearly. I could not find Vettri TV so I'm not sure if they are broadcasting in this area. I don't mind more channels, it's good to have many channels then there is more choice but each channel should try to offer something unique and have their own unique identity otherwise I agree it becomes stale.

When digial television broadcasting is launched in Sri Lanka, the networks can multi-cast a few channels on the same frequency so the frequency band won't become too clogged.

  8. Both channels are clearly visible in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, Attidiya, Boralesgamuwa, Nedimala areas.

  9. Both channels are very clear for most parts of Colombo. Yesterday at the launch they have mentioned that they broadcast from the Jaic Hilton.

Good location !!! transmission point is higher that the WTC !! So we can expect a good coverage area.

Watch out for the content !!!!

  13. I tuned my TV again and couldn't receive VettriTV from North West Province. I am receiving Siyatha TV clearly on UHF 35 or UHF 36. I couldn't receive DAN tv on UHF 53 either so the transmission signal probably isn't strong enough outside of Colombo.

  16. Hey men here a great news for us that ABC networks may be going to start Sha and Sun FM very soon. Now they mentioned Sha & Sun FM on their recent advertisement on www.topjobs.lk. Please check it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ABC radio networks is indicating SHA and SUN FM on their recent advertisement from www.topjobs.lk check it people. I think the reason why they testing SHA through HIRU is they are going to start SHA soon.

    ReplyDelete
  18. if any one can understand 1+2=3, it is simple as that that ABC cannot start any more channels. Simply there is no frequencies left.

So dont even waste a post by dreaming such.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hello Nik it's not my day dream or blaablaa.... but why they mentioned SHA FM & SUN FM on their new AD. It's not necessary to mention closed channels on their AD. On their previous AD they didn't mention about Sha or Sun so that means they might got the relevant frequencies now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nik how can you make sure that NO frequencies left for them. The TRC details are almost wrong they really not knowing whether some frequencies in use or not. When you take VOA, they're operating new frequencies every month. So we can't take TRC details as true as it is.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Vettri payal, I have a very close contact at TRC. I called him and asked. Apperently what ever frequencies VOA operates are given to them long time ago. Not recently.

As per him, right now there is absolutely no frequencies.

  22. @Nik...

well i dont know how much knowledge u hav abt SL media stations and their owners. but in this case u seem to b unaware of certain things.

VOA = Voice of Asia Networks which owns Vettri, Siyatha Real Radio, Vettri TV and Siyatha TV.

ABC Radio Network is the company that owns Sooriyan, Gold, Hiru and also formerly owned Sha and Sun before they were shut down by the govt.

u pls dont get these two mixed up!!

  24. Guys Any One Know What Is Isura Fm Going To Do .

From Few Months Back Thalam Fm Is No More On Isura Fm And The Thing Is Long Time Now Isura Fm Doing A Testing After 9.30 pm Playing Only Songs Back To Back .They Are Saying Som Thing ( I Cant Remember). But Sharp 12 MidNight They Are Closing There Transmission.

Is That They Were Trying To BroadCast 24Hrs.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Now Vettri TV started a website called http://vettritv.com/ . Does anyone knows whether vettri tv on Dialog TV or anyother sat?

    ReplyDelete

  26. See the Sath FM coverage map

    http://www.sathfmlive.com/image/103.6_COVERAGE.gif

They use a single frequency for all the transmissions ! Pretty simple !! Why can't TRC allow other broadcasters to do the same.

I think it saves lot of frequencies and subscribers need not to change the frequency when they travel.

  27. Vettri Tv Will Relaunch Soon .Currently They Were Airing TBO Programs But Soon They Will Relaunch The Channel With There Program Linup

  30. Now there are no 24 hr ch's in Sri Lanka, even ART close at 12.00, TVLanka stops terrestrial coverage but thier transmission is still 24hrs. I think may be due to financial matters that they have stop thier local transmission. If you getting it over the Sat (Yamal202@ 49E) Click here for more you should be able to watch 24 hrs content. Previously we had at aleat three 24 hrs ch's ie. ART, ETV and TVL but none of them are continuing now..
Will see.. SIYATHA might come into picture..
Another Vetrri Tv will not coming to Dialog Platform as it retelecast the TBO CH's. Unless it shows it own contenet vettri cannot go to PAY TV platform like DTV or PeoTV

  31. what happen to siyatha tv Nuwara eliya transmission? is they want another 3yrs to start it? siyatha tv didnt covered gampaha town area to veyangoda yet, but the funniest thing is Vettry tv coverd it, this area 99% sinhalese live. i can only say another tv channel begun without covering Western province 100%. i think this is a trend, bcos newly started tv,fm channels didnt cover this area. may b thay dont want viwers in this area.

    ReplyDelete
  32. in previous comment i saw someone say siyatha tv begun with islandwide coverage, its not true, it didnt have island wide coverage and my friend dont u know Rupawahini is the first channel begun with island wide coverage(they covered south india in that time) siyata test trsansmission carried 3yrs, considering derana: in 3yrs they covered big area of island. it is not not pleasure to say siyatha tv start with island wide coverage, they r failed, they get 3yrs to start, but still NOT a ISLAND WIDE

What Yo Mean By Nearest To Galle Face ?

I Mean There Is A Radio Channel BroadCasting Illegal On Galle To Support Anarkali .They Dont Have Name And Also They Havent Media License.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The UNP candidate for the Southern PC election Manushe Nanayakkara has asked the Commissioner of Elections and Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to stop the illegal radio channel broadcasting messages asking voters to cast their votes to Ms. Anarkali Akasha, contesting from the UPFA.

Mr. Nanayakkara in his complaint states the radio channel is broadcast over FM 97 ,95 channels and has asked the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to hold a comprehensive inquiry regarding the radio channel which is being carried out illegally.

He states eh radio channel which violates not only the election law but the law of the country does not have a license or a name for it. He points out such radio channels would be a hindrance to the security of the country.

  46. what a powerful media network now ---- www.siyatha.com

i think this is what they were aiming at.

Now they are the only network which covers all 3 media in tv, radio and print

  47. What's going on? ABC expanding coverage.

Sooriyan FM Tamil radio now 103.4 on Uva and East. They're saying this now.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ABC must have frequencies for UVA and EAST. Right now they are not broadcasting from Bandarawela or Haputale targeting these areas but other radio channels do. Becuase most of the tamil & Sinhala listeners in Ampara & Yala and in some of the areas in Batticalo can not listen to Sooriyan & Hiru since the signals are very weak. so they may have got new frequencies for these areas.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Also ABC can get frequencies for their present channels and also they can use available transmitters (previously used for Sun & Sha) for expansion of their present channels. it is worth than keeping them idle.
