Playing TV - "Prime TV" and "N TV"

Two of the absolutely worthless channels over Sri Lankan airwaves at the moment. No proper terrestrial coverage. Only people in colombo can see the channels over FTA regular antenna's. and that also barely in some areas. One is available over Dialog TV islandwide but sadly not even one Dialog TV subscriber watches the channel.

This is called playing TV. Experienced television operators such as SLRC and ITN messing things up on a grand scale. No proper planning. Grand launch and then nothing. It is a great vision by His Excellency The President Mahinda Rajapakse to have two nationally operated English Language channels and we commend and fully endorse His vision and we are sure the general public has too. But sadly the people who are carrying out the vision have not caught the vision properly. So both channels are becoming utterly worthless and total failures.

First impressions always count, sadly "Prime TV" made a horrible first impression and "N TV" has made an invisible first impression due to lack of coverage.

Both channels specially "Prime TV" is playing back old and outdated programming from ITN's Library that has been gathering dust all these years.

Unless a more dynamic approach is adopted, these two channels are heading towards a certain death.

  3. Why We Are Talking About Only These 2 Channels. Why Vasantham Tv Its Also Same Like This .

See The Privte Tv Channels They Are Launching With Islandwide Coverage.

SLRC And ITN Fully Owned Government Institution. So They Have Lot Of Money They Can Do What Ever Things. Why Didn't They Start With A Good Coverage

Take SLRC When They Launch Rupavahini 2 ( Now Channel Eye) They Came Up With Good Coverage.
    What Happen To Them ?

Becoz One Thing Now There Is A Big Fight ITN And Rupavahini. Thats Why This Thing Happen.

Other Thing Is That Presidents Think That They Can Change The Peoples Mind Giving New Two Tv Channels .

Dialog has starter their D-UHF transmission few years ago. There is nothing to come.

    And VOA also started.

There is no such Sumathi. Thats a different license category.

And ABC, is no where yet....

  20. Nik, hope you have a VOA sick. Why can't other medias step up doing new things? you just thinking only voa is the media doing everything bla bla............

Nik just wait n see how things will go in sri lankan media industry. If you can't believe new news just shut up and have a silence.

  21. whether people accept or not ABC, Sumathi Networks and Tv radio networks (V fm) have UHF frequencies to start TV station so they will be starting TVs in future. thats why people talk here about those medias.

As I have close relation with ABC they have great plans to start 3 Tv channels but they may not start soon.

As a media you should have a good political and economy background to start new TV or radio. With elections coming around anything can happen.

  22. Sumathi and EW Balasuriya not going to start tv, the frequency is allocated for their SPORTING STAR or SPORTING TIMES transmission.

  30. Tigo to change name, launch 3G

Colombo’s third largest mobile operator Tigo, recently bought by UAE’s Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (ETC- Etisalat) from Millicom International Cellular, will be changing its name again, three years after Millicom changed its name from Celltel to Tigo, according to both Etisalat and Tigo sources.
“The Tigo name will be changed. ETC will probably rename Tigo as Etisalat, which is their service brand name,” an ETC source told the Sunday Times FT. The source said that this rebranding exercise will be done with a large investment, but declined to comment on how much.

He said that the company is also slated to launch its 3G (third generation) network early next year. “A top Etisalat team is slated to visit the island this month and will discuss the plans for Sri Lanka,” he said, adding that the team visiting Sri Lanka will discuss mobile services and brand name together with its corporate identity change.

A Tigo source said that ETC a day after completing the sale with Millicom settled all the bank loans of Tigo, but he declined to comment on the amount that was settled.

Analysts said that Tigo’s new parent with an estimated US$ 9.1 billion net assets and a US$ 3 billion net cash inflow from operations boasts of a US$ 3 billion cash and cash equivalents at the end of this financial year. “With a parent company with such deep pockets we can assume that the tariff structure for Tigo’s operations going forward may not meet much pressure in the initial stages and could focus on capturing market share with low tariff schemes,” an industry analyst noted.

    source sunday times!
