Game on….. Dialog Sattelite TV vs LBN

The two pay television services who were shutdown last year under controversial circumstances are now making giant strides in the pay television market. Dialog TV backed by Dialog Telekom is presently in the process of expanding their channels to include those of Star and have already included Ten Sports, Hallmark, Neo, God TV etc. They are also testing HDTV services.

LBN is also on an expansion drive and will be adding channels such as BBC World, Animax, etc and have already added channels such as Star Cricket, Discovery Network and they too are testing HDTV services and will also be introducing cable based internet services soon.

So it looks like the pay television war is now hotting up with LBN taking on Dialog TV and not wanting to play second fiddle to the larger competitor. Apart from coverage LBN is clearly on a level playing field as Dialog TV.

LBN are also on a coverage expansion drive by expanding services out of colombo to wattala by acquiring a pay television operator in the area. (Please read... LBN launches services in Wattala).

However it is sad to note that Comet Cable is let lagging behind and may eventually have to do a complete overhaul or face the consequences. SLT IPTV will add to this competition and clearly the public is set to benefit greatly from this competition.

Pay television has been a service that was fairly restricted due to the pricing and affordability but now with competition things will begin to change very soon.

It's always good when there's competition coz it's the customers who benefit a lot.. so here's the time.. I never had time for t.v... still don't really.. but I'm thinking of getting it coz the deals seem to be good...

Dialog has a major penetration strategy.. which is good actually..

C'mon LBN! Woo woo woo!

Dialog is evil and pompous! May they never prosper! And as soon as LBN provides coverage in my area, I'm switching over!

May who ever wish for a prosperous MALAYSIA, go for Dialog TV and migrate to Malaysia.

Others may enjoy 'BE SRILANKAN, BUY SRILANAKN'

Dialog not testing HDTV, it is DVB-t ( terrestrial digital Broadcasting ) on UHF 44 from Dematagoda. that cannot view without company issued set top box.

Anony at 11:41am on July 27th

Dialog Satellite TV is a DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcasting Satellite based).

It is not any UHF from Dematagoda. It is from up above the skies of Sri Lanka.

What the other guy is talking about is in addition to their satellite transmission. Don't open your mouth if you don't know. You will end up looking foolish.

why do sri lanka need so much pay tv providers ? very few people can afford paying for pay tv

i think dialog tv is trying out Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV or DTT)

this technology is used in lot of countries. hope we get good free channels like uk,us

i can see there are either whole lot of ass lickers or just one with so many names,

but they only know few terms like DVB-T, DVB-S, Dialog, HDTV,

not a clue about what it is.

Waiting to hear the term of DVB-H, which is only missing technology here so far.

Means some one is going to be the father of DVB-T.
